We’re passionate about training and upskilling our team. However, when it comes to first aid training, you always hope they’ll never need it.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case back in September, when a number of our team acted fast to work together when the unthinkable happened.
One of our employees, Brian, was carrying out his regular duties in the warehouse when he suffered a Cardiac Arrest.
The on-duty Team Leader and First Aider, Donny, had seen Brian on the floor and immediately assessed the situation and began to give Brian chest compressions whilst an Ambulance was called.
Our Warehouse Supervisor and also a First Aider, Dave, then attended to help take over with the chest compressions and our Warehouse Support Associate, also a trained First Aider, Wendy, attended to help with chest compressions. They continued to alternate with this for approximately 15-20 minutes.
Meanwhile, the warehouse team collected the defibrillator from our security office and sent it back up to the area within minutes; this piece of equipment was also used on Brian,
East Midlands Ambulance arrived, alongside the Air Ambulance who took over and managed to revive Brian and bring him back around; it was a huge relief that Brian was speaking when he was taken in the ambulance to Derby Royal Hospital.
We are so, so pleased to say that Brian is recovering well.
We want to recognise our incredible team of First Aiders, without whom, the outcome could have been devastating. The old saying ‘it takes a village…’ is so true in circumstances like this, where our whole team, not just the people mentioned, came together to play their part, and we are incredibly grateful for their quick thinking and fast action.
We are so proud of everyone involved and over the moon that Brian is well on his way to a full recovery.
